Project: Village Homes: A Radical Plan
Earthy colors, treated images and slab serif style fonts evocative of the 1970s anchor a flexible graphic language deployed across environmental, print, and digital applications. Text and image panels were etched, cut and printed on sheets of plywood floated on wall mounts, suspended in the space, or visibly nailed to surfaces. Information was kept concise, written to be accessible with an active voice like the specification sheet style labels explaining why building materials were selected or how they saved energy. Sketch-like animated sequences helped define the home’s passive solar features and illustrate the unique architecture. Over 600 photographs sourced from residents were scanned and shown on four screen-based carousels to illustrate the Village Homes story.
Venue: UC Davis Design Museum
Design team: Concept, lead designer and fabrication (100%). Student design lead for graphic identity, Kelly Kankowski (30%) and photo carousels, Florie Mankarious (90%).
