Entering the Circular Economy

Water Messages, MARKK Museum, Hamburg. Design: Resolve Collective London

At the 2024 American Alliance of Museums Conference in Baltimore I gave a joint paper presentation with Douglas Flandro from Cambridge Seven Associates called Entering the Circular Economy: Sustainability that Saves Money. The presentation and workshop asked when creating a new exhibit, how do museums make design decisions that positively impact the environment and our society? The session covered exhibits designed for disassembly and an extended lifespan. Explored the environmental impacts of design and material choices, ways to design exhibits so that they can be deconstructed and reused rather than demolished, and reviewed practical resources for obtaining salvage materials for exhibit construction and graphic production.
